B2 Summer Institute: A State of Wonder

Course Description

When: July 8th - 25th, 2009
Where: Biosphere 2 Directions
Eligibility: Active 4th - 8th grade math and science teachers in the state of Arizona
Cost: NONE! Course includes training*, materials, summer stipend, laptop computer, housing accomodations, and breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

Application Deadline is April 1st, 2009.


The first B2 Summer Institute will be held July 8th - 25th, 2009.

Arizona is a state of wonder! Open your door to the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). At the same time, your classroom door will open to students in different states of wonder.

The B2 Summer Institute is designed to merge your practice with the world of STEM by immersing you in inquiry, discovery and exploration of the diverse opportunities at Biosphere 2. Working alongside Arizona scientists, you will experience an in-depth discovery and exploration of STEM. This institute is designed to support you no matter your level of expertise at no cost to you.

From beginning to veteran teachers, this experience will allow all teachers the opportunity to leave the summer with a new identity as a scientist. Take the discoveries and experiences of teachers and make decisions about creating the same discovery and exploration for your students.

*NOTE: There will be hiking, walking, and climbing of steep terrain. Research may require some bending, lifting and strenuous activity. Biosphere 2 is at nearly 4,000 feet elevation and the area is quite warm in the summer.
